Richard L. McPherson, 78, of Belding passed away Saturday November 15, 2014 in 
Grand Rapids at Spectrum Health- Butterworth Campus.  Richard was born on 
January 2, 1936 in Lansing, the son of Leo and Beulah (Deacon) McPherson. 

He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1954-1957.  He had 
retired from Extruded Metals after 43 years of service.  Richard liked hunting, 
fishing, camping and always enjoyed time spent in the Mesick area.  He was a 
jack of all trades and enjoyed rebuilding things.  He was a member of the 
Belding United Methodist Church, the AMVETS and the Belding Sportsman’s Club.  
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.  He was married on 
December 13, 1957 in Grandville to Esther Mekkes. 

Richard is loved and survived by his wife Esther and their children; Rick and 
Becky McPherson of Sparta, Lynn Gillespie and Dan Ostermann of Stanton, his 
grandchildren; Richard Lee McPherson III, “ Lee”, Kenneth Delaney McPherson, 
Jack Grooters and Jenna Lynn Gillespie.  He was preceded in death by his 
parents and a grandson Benjamin Grooters. 

Funeral and committal prayers will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Johnson-Feuerstein 
Funeral Home, Belding with Pastor Kim DeLong of the Belding United Methodist 
Church officiating.  Visitation will be one hour before the service.  Military 
honors will be given by the honor guard of the Belding VFW Post.  Burial will 
take place privately in River Ridge Cemetery.  Memorials may be given to the 
Belding United Methodist Church.
