The Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard, Monday, August 1, 1949
Miss Mary J. McPherson, 88, died at the Ionia Convalescent Home Sunday, July 
31, at 10:30 a.m. after being a patient there for the past year.  

She was born July 30, 1861 on her father’s farm on Staley Road, the daughter 
of William and Pauline McPherson.  She lived her entire life in her present 
home which her parents took up from the government.  She was the youngest of 
eight children and the last surviving member.

She was a life-long member of the Ionia Methodist church and a charter member 
of the State Road club.

Surviving are four nephews, John and William McPherson and Richard Clute of 
Ionia and Monroe Clute of Miami, Fla.

Services will be conducted Tuesday, August 2, at 2 p.m. from Boynton funeral 
home  The Rev. F. G. Dunbar of Grand Rapids, former pastor of the Ionia First 
Methodist church, will officiate.  Interment will be in Highland Park cemetery.
