The deed was committed as officers served the warrant and were about the use force in getting him to the city jail. Mrs. McPherson had the warrant sworn out for his arrest and when Arthur Cory, acting chief-of-police called at the house, McPherson told him he would kill himself rather than be arrested. Cory attempted to take him to jail and a bitter fight followed. Cory then released him and went back to the city hall for more help. In the meantime McPherson secured the carbolic acid. After he had drank it he collapsed as he came out of the house when Cory had returned with Don Cook, city clerk. A doctor was called and he died within 20 minutes. He is survived by a widow, a daughter and a son. Mrs. McPherson instituted proceedings in circuit court on Tuesday for a divorce, owing to his condition about the house. Judge Lapham, coroner, called to the scene, decided an inquest was not necessary.
