She was born Nov. 22, 1917, in Detroit, the daughter of Joseph and Victoria (Clemmons) VanHoudt. Mrs. McQuarrie was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Portland. She worked at Western Auto in Portland and retired at age 75 from B. Altman Department Store. She was a loving grandmother and soon-to-be great- grandmother who enjoyed traveling, spending time at Houghton Lake and bowling. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; son Kenneth; daughter, Nancy Jean; and step-son Donald McQuarrie. Surviving are children: Deborah (Carl) Collin of Dimondale; Tharsilla (Gary) Stanton of Lansing, Diana “Dee” (Jerry, Jr.) Vincent of Battle Creek; Janice (Don) Weisenburg, of Ionia; and Dorothy (Sam) Pandrea of Marlette; daughters-in-law, Patricia Dimaio of Grand Ledge, Diane VanDamme of Fowlerville; step-son Stewart McQuarrie of Ionia; 16 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and sister Delphine (Skip) Sanger of Holland. The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Portland, with Fr. Charles D. Hall, Pastor officiating. Rite of Committal will follow in Portland Cemetery. The Family will receive friends at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday. A rosary will be prayed Monday at 8 p.m. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Ionia County Commission on Aging, in memory of Jean Tharsilla McQuarrie.
