Ionia Sentinel, 19 Mar 1974

Leon A. McQuillan, 74, of East Main died Monday at the Ionia Manor following an 
extended illness.

Born in Lyons township in 1899 he was the son of Joseph and Lucy McQuillan, The 
family moved to Ionia in 1913.  In 1919 he was married in Ionia to Ida M. Jack 
and she survives.

He was a member of First Christian church and the IOOF lodge of Palo.

In 1960 he was retired from the Michigan Reformatory after working there 20 
years.  He had also served as grounds keeper at Ionia Country club several 
years.   owned and operated the McQuillan lawn mower repair service from 1947 
until 1963.

Surviving besides the wife are a daughter, Mrs. Keith VanHouten of Ionia; two 
grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Stone-Kauffman funeral home.  
Rev. Roger Gifford of First Christian church will officiate and interment will 
be at Balcom cemetery.  mily will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 2 to 4 
p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.  memorial has been established for the First Christian 
church of Ionia.
