McQuillan, 77, of Belding, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 3, 2008, at Spectrum Health United Hospital in Greenville. George was born Feb. 23, 1931, in Redford Township, the son of Lavern and Hortence Gable McQuillan. He proudly served his country into United States Navy as chief petty officer, retiring after 20 years of service. After his naval career he worked as a builder and later was very proud of graduating from Aquinas College in May 1983 with a bachelor of science degree in English. George was an active volunteer with Project Literacy in Ionia County and loved tutoring and helping people learn to read. George was married on Nov. 22, 1958, in Chicago to Yvonne Loveland and she preceded him in death on Nov. 5, 1994. George also was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Ed, Frank, Jim and Bill; and his sister, Rosemary. George is survived by his children, Patrick and Lynn McQuillan, Mark and Marcia McQuillan, all of Belding, Lynn and Brian Houser of Fenwick, John McQuillan of San Francisco, Kathleen and Matt Bach of Grand Blanc; 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; his sister, Patricia Lawson of North Branch; his brother, Bruce and Mary McQuillan of Weidman; his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Randy and Pat Loveland and Karen Weeks. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Metron of Belding for the wonderful care given to their father. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding, with Pastor Ken Harger of Shiloh Community Church officiating. Private interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today and beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Project Literacy or Boystown.
