The day previous the old gentleman was in the village, apparently as well and jolly as ever. He went home about five o'clock, ate a hearty supper, took his usual smoke, and retired for the night. His nephew, who has slept with him all winter, knew nothing of his uncle's death until about five o'clock in the morning, when upon being called to build a fire, he spoke to him twice without receiving any answer, and taking hold of him to awaken him, found him cold and lifeless. An inquest was held this (Wednesday) forenoon, the jury rendered a verdict that his death resulted from apoplexy. The funeral will be held at the Catholic church in Ionia on Tuesday morning. Mr. McQuillin came to the United States from Ireland in 1840. In 1843 he visited his native land, returning to this country in 1846. With the exception of rheumatism in the right side, he had experienced tolerable good health for many years."
