Alton McSherry and Nicholas Lawless were excused from school early on Friday afternoon. That they went to the McSherry home and played around for an hour or more, they were then taken ill and within a few hours young McSherry was dead. His companion has been in a precarious condition ever since but will doubtless pull through all right. The boys were each 8 years old. Young Lawless when he recovered somewhat told what is considered the true story of the affair. He says that while on their way from school Alton McSherry, the boy who is now dead, found under a sidewalk a small bottle wrapped in a newspaper. The bottle contained a reddish liquid. Young McSherry drank part of it and offered the remainder to the Lawless boy, saying that it tasted sweet. The latter drank a little of it and then they threw the bottle into the driver. A third boy, Roy Denny, was with them but did not touch the liquid. Dr. Ogden, who attended the boys, now thinks that the liquid was some sort of an arsenical mixture. The exact nature of it will probably never be known.
