The Carson City Gazette, Friday, March 5, 1915
Mary H. Vance was born at Dundee, Yates County, New York, June 16, 1830, and 
died March 1, 1915 at 6 p.m.  She came to Michigan when 15 years old to keep 
house for her brother John and later for another brother, William.  She was 
united in marriage to Bartow W. McVeigh, November 4, 1857, and lived on the 
farm at East Plains, Ionia county.  At that time the region was a veritable 
wilderness.  The family moved to Carson City 27 years ago.

To this union were born six children, Sarah J. Ludwick, John W., (deceased), 
Candace Corey of Britton, So. Dakota; George E., who resides on the old 
homestead; Byron of Aberdeen, So. Dakota, and Mary Percie Eldridge of this 
place.  There are also ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and one 
sister, Mrs. Jane Millis, aged 89 days, of Whitewater, Wis., left to mourn 
their loss, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. McVeigh united with the United Brethren church at Matherton over fifty 
years ago and was a consistent member until the time of her passing.  She also 
identified herself with the Rebekah order about that time, later transferring 
her membership here; she was also a member of the local W.R.R., and the many 
beautiful floral offerings carried silent messages of sympathy to the bereaved 
ones.

Since the death of Mr. McVeigh, Jan. 30, 1911, Mrs. McVeigh has made her home 
with her daughter, Mrs. Eldridge, where the funeral will be held Saturday 
afternoon at 1 o’clock standard time, Rev. Jos. L. Kennedy officiating, and 
burial will take place in the family lot in East Plains cemetery.
