He retired in June of 1961, following 23 years of state employment at the reformatory. All except two days of his employment was in the various kitchen departments of the institution. Previous to the establishment of the steward’s department in 1947 the work was handled by various guards assigned to kitchen duty. He is a past worthy patron of Ionia Eastern Star and was a member of the F&AM blue lodge. Following his retirement he and Mrs. McVicker have spent most of their time at Central Lake. Surviving in addition to his wife, Julia, are a daughter, Mrs. Fred Culp of Ionia; son, Marvin McVicker of Flint, six grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Minerva Dunker and a brother, Jesse McVicker of Central Lake.
