Mead, 82, of Grand Rapids, a former Ionia resident until his removal to Grand Rapids in 1875, died during the weekend as the result of injuries received when he was struck by a car near his home in Grand Rapids as he attempted to cross the street. Mead died in the St. Mary’s hospital early Sunday morning. He was born in Ovid May 4, 1837 and resided in Ionia several years before moving to Grand Rapids. In 1908 he moved to Chicago and entered partnership in the hotel brokerage firm of Barron and Company. Later he became the sole owner of the hotel chain. He retired from business about eight years ago. He was in the grocery business in Iowa with his father and later in the firm of Aniba and Mead. One daughter survives, Miss Blanche Mead. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in Grand Rapids and burial was at the Highland Park cemetery in Ionia.
