Mead, who died at White Cloud Thursday evening, arrived here this morning on the 11:57 train from Grand Rapids, and were met at the depot by an escort from Wm. H. Borden Post G.A.R. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock from the M.E. church. The funeral of the late L.H. Mead took place on Sunday afternoon from the M.E. church, a very large audience being present. He was a member of the G.A.R. and Wm. H. Borden post, No. 211 turned out about 40 strong as an escort, and furnished the pall bearers. Rev. A.M. Gould preached an excellent and appropriate sermon, speaking of the deceased as a good man, a loyal citizen, beloved by his family, and regretted by his friends. The remains, at the close of the services at the church were escorted by the post to Highland Park cemetery where they were laid at rest with the impressive burial service of the grand army, there to remain until the final revielle on resurrection morn. Mr. Mead was for many years a business man in Ionia. He served in the war in an Ohio regiment, coming to Ionia soon after his discharge. Recently he has lived at White Cloud where he died.
