Portland Review - Sept. 28, 1998


Frederick C. Meade, 85, of Lansing died Sept. 16, 1998.

He was born in Portland Oct. 27, 1912. He owned and operated pharmacies in 
Vermontville and Portland and had retired in 1977 as manager of the Meijer 
Pharmacy Department in Okemos. He was a former Mayor of the City of Portland, 
and active member of First Congregational Church of Portland, and a former life 
member of Portland Masonic Lodge #31 F&AM.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Esther; daughters, Carolyn Meade of Lansing 
and Cathryn (James) Kasten of Alton, Ill; grandchildren, Mark (Jennifer) Kasten 
of Raleigh, N.C. and Michele Kasten of Boulder, Colo.; sister, Mabel Lakin of 
Lowell; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Services were held Sept. 19 at the First Congregational of Portland, with the 
Rev. Marilyn Danielson and the Rev. Robert Nixon officiating.

Contributions may be made to the church.
