March 22, 1932 ELIZABETH MEADOWS WAS ‘MOTHER’ TO ASSOCIATES Fine Old Lady Passes Away At County Farm After Brief Illness “She earned her way. She was especially good among the sick and a mother to us all,” was the tribute paid Mrs. Elizabeth Meadows by Superintendent Jackson, of the county farm, in discussing her death with the Review. This occurred Thursday morning after an illness of but three or four days, of pneumonia. Mrs. Meadows was 83 and prior to going to Ionia in 1926 lived with her aged husband in Danby. They had no children, no immediate relatives. It was hard to make both ends meet and reluctantly the couple acceded to advice of friends and accepted the hospitality of the county. Mrs. Meadows might have found employment but, companion since childhood; they were not to be separated. Both won the respect and affection of all connected with the farm. John Meadows was first to be called. They brought his remains back to Danby and there was a vacant space beside the grave. Now it is filled, for these companions in life were not to be separated in death. The burial took place Saturday morning and a Sunfield preacher gave his benediction. Mrs. Meadows was born and reared in England, coming to this country when she was 38. Here she married and the couple settled on a far south of Westphalia. They did not succeed at farming, finally selling it and moving to this vicinity.
