The Ionia Daily Standard, Saturday, February 15, 1902


Jane Meeks was born in Macomb county, Michigan October 27th, 1836, and died 
February 11, 1902, aged 65 years, 3 months and 13 days.  She was brought up 
from infancy by Mrs. Hile Preston, and with her came to Orleans, Ionia county 
in 1846.  She was married first to Mr. Spencer, in 1854.  To this union were 
born two children, both of whom are alive.  She was married the second time to 
John Meeks in 1863.  To this union were born 5 children, 4 of whom survive 
her.  Mr. Meeks died on January 6th, 1874.  

She has lived on the old Preston homestead nearly all of her married life.  
Mrs. Meeks was left an orphan in infancy.  She was a faithful mother to her 
children. Home was her haven of delight. 

She was buried in the Orleans cemetery, by the side of her husband.  The 
funeral services were conducted by Rev. E. G. Frye of Ionia.
