Megarah was born in McVey town, Pa., June 23rd 1819; moved from there to Huron County, Ohio, at the age of eleven.He moved to William County,Ohio, where he learned and worked at the carpenter's trade.In 1840 he was married to Edith Tyndal, of Huron county, Ohio. Six children blessed his home by this wife.In 1851 after enduring for a time the hardships that go hand in hand with the pioneers life, this devoted wife and mother, with two of her children was laid to rest in the West Unity Cemetery, Williams county, Ohio, only a week intervening between each death. Then began life more earnest with Mr. Megarah, he having to fill the place of father and mother to four small children which he did without flinching, proving himself the faithful father he was until the end.He came to Portland in 1859, went to Pike's Peak a year later; on his way back in 1861, he was married to Miss America squire, of Wabash,Indiana.Immediately after e moved to Toledo, Ohio, where he resided until 1865, when he again moved to Portland, living in the village and working at the mill wright trade. A few years afterward moving upon his farm in this township. Two children were born to him by his present wife, Eddie and Harry Megarah. Harry passed to the other home only a little less than a year before the father. Mr. Megarah leaves a devoted wife and five children who mourn his loss; Mrs.John Fuller of Crystal, W.S. Megarah, Mrs D.Kennedy, Mrs.Orrin howe and Eddie Megarah of Portland.The only living relative on Mr. Megarah's side is a cousin, Rev. J.H. Megarah, a Methodist minister of Williamsport, Pa., and to whom the deceased was much attached. The funeral services were held in the M.E.Church, Wednesday,June 20th, at half past ten o'clock, the Rev.R.M. Keyes officiating. Additional Comments: Portland Cem., Sec.WMD-#534-Row 6 Portland,Mich.
