Manuel V. Mejia, 78, of Belding, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at his
home.  He was born on December 2, 1923, in Three Rivers, Texas, the son of
Concepcion and Andrea Valadez Mejia.  Manuel was a former member of the Belding
American Legion, a veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theater and a
member of the Teamsters Local 406.  He was a loving husband, father and
grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

He was married to Connie Vunck on Oct. 16, 1971, in Greenville.  She survives,
along with their children, Melonie and Tom Tromp of Grand Rapids, Manuel and
Lois Mejia, Kathy and Les Loughin, Karole and Glen Guinnup, all of Greenville,
Melinda and Steve Rush, Andrea and Randy Williams, Kathleen and Scott Gibbs,
Kristine and Rick Greene, Joseph Mejia, all of Belding, Paul and Trish Mejia of
Grand Rapids; 20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and a sister and
brother-in-law, Maria and Alfred Meyers of Laredo, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and sister, Pete
Talamantez, Adelita Montiel, Trinidad Mirelez; his twin sister, Virginia Garcia;
and his first wife, Patriciam in 1969.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home,
Belding, with Pastor Jim Sayers officiating.  Interment will be in Otisco
Township Cemetery.  A luncheon will follow at the Belding American Legion. 
Visitation is today from 2 to 4 p.m. and Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral
home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, the
American Lung Association or the American Diabetes Foundation.
