Ionia Sentinel Standard, 7 Nov 1986

Helen M. Mellstead, 82, 2700 Burcham Drive, East Lansing, formerly of Portland, 
died Thursday in a Lansing hospital.  She was born Feb. 4, 1904, in Danby 
Township, the daughter of Harry and Myrtle Martin Wilcox.  She was a member of 
the Portland United Methodist Church and the W.S.C.S.

Survivors include three daughters, Lorna Ainslie of Haslett, Marilyn Buttons of 
Upland, Ind. and Janice Patrick of Eagle.  Also surviving are three brothers, 
Ernest Wilcox of Florida and Howard and Ivan Wilcox of Portland; and four 
sisters, Ethel Feehand and Lela Wickerink of Ionia and Dorothy Kissane and 
Francis Adams of Portland.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Portland United Methodist 
Church, with the Rev. Harold Holmes and the Rev. Robert Hinklin officiating.  
Pallbearers will be grandchildren and burial will be in the Portland Cemetery.  
A memorial for the Portland United Methodist Church has been established in 
care of the Neller Funeral home in Portland.
