Melvin, 76, of Muir, died Saturday, September 3, 1994 at Ionia County Memorial Hospital. He was born Aug. 29, 1918, in Piper City, Ill. the son of Edward and Edith (Post) Melvin. He was graduated from Pewamo Westphalia High School in 1936. He married Agnes Edmonds in June of 1941. They came to Muir in 1942. Mr. Melvin was employed as a millwright at GenCorp in Ionia. He was a union member and president since 1951 at GenCorp and a regional financial secretary of the union. He was also a former Boy Scout master of the Muir troop, a life member and officer of Lyons Masonic Lodge #137, a Muir council member for 18 years and village president for four years. He is survived by his wife Agnes; four sons, James Melvin of Ashley, Mich., Jerry Melvin of Muir; Dr. Ronald Melvin of Houghton Lake; Dr. Rodney Melvin of Utica, Mich; one daughter Michelle Adams of Mundelein, Ill.; two sisters, Estelle Fox of St. Johns and Ethel Durban of Carson City; six grandchildren. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Muir. The Rev. Kendall Harger will officiate. Burial will be in the Muir Cemetery. A memorial fund will be decided by the family, envelopes are available at Hull Memorial Chapel in Muir.
