MUIR- Joseph Keith Melvin, 51, of 444 Ionia, Muir, died Sunday of an apparent 
heart attack.

He was born April 12, 1921, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Melvin. Following 
graduation from Pewamo high school in 1939 he was employed in Detroit for a 
year.

He was a member of Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

August 14, 1943 he was married to Maxine Phelps of Ionia and worked the farm of 
his parents all his life.

Following his marriage the couple resided in Muir one year and then moved to 
Pewamo until 1953. That year they returned to Muir and purchased their home at 
444 Ionia street.

He was employed at Oldsmobile in Lansing 24 years in July. Previously he had 
been employed at Ionia Manufacturing Co. in Ionia and Gibsons at Greenville. He 
continued operation of the farm north of Muir which he purchased in 192.

Surviving besides his wife, Maxine, are a daughter, Mrs. Sandra Thelen of 
Fowler; three sons, Joseph Keith II of Lansing, Dennis of Lyons, and Bruce at 
home; 11 grandchildren; mother, Mrs. Edith Melvin of Muir; brother, Charles of 
Muir; sister, Mrs. Ethel Durbin of Carson City, two half sisters, Mrs. Estella 
Fox and Mrs. Lois Bissell of St. Johns.

The body will be at Hull funeral chapel in Muir until noon Wednesday.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 pm at Muir Presbyterian church. Rev. Richard 
Strait will officiate and interment will be at Muir cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Muir Presbyterian church and contributions 
may be left at the funeral chapel.
