Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard - Sat. Dec. 18 & Tues, Dec. 21 1943


Louis Melzow, 81, resident of Ionia for 60 years, died at the home of his 
daughter, Mrs. H.J. Tafel, Hill Street, Ionia, Friday at 5 p.m.

He had been ill for the past three weeks.

Mr. Melzow came to the United States when 21 years of age from Germany. Married 
in Germany in 1883 to Wilhelmina Holtz, the couple settled in Detroit where 
they lived for one year and then moved to Ionia. Mrs. Melzow died in 1938.

He was a pipefitter at the Pier Marquette car shops in Ionia for over 25 years. 
He was then retired.

He was a member of St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran church.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. H.J. Tafel of Ionia, a son, Louis C. Melzow of 
Royal Oak, a sister, Mrs. William S_____ of A_____, seven grandchildren and 
eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. in the St. Johns Evangelical 
Church. ___________ _________prayer services at the home at 2 p.m. Rev. R.A. 
Rook will officiate and interment will be at the Highland Park Cemetery.

Funeral services for Louis Melzow, 81, Hill Street were held Monday at 2:30 
p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, following prayer services at the home at 2 
o’clock. Rev. R.A. Rook officiated and burial was in Highland Park cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ferd Tafel, Frank Hass, Paul Schipper, Herman Hacker, Joseph 
Waldelich and John Allison.

Attending services from away were Mr. and Mrs. Louis Melzow and Mr. and Mrs. 
Clyde Riddle of Royal Oak, Mr. and Mrs. William Melzow and Frank Melzow of 
Flint.
