Former Ionia Pastor Dead in Detroit
Rev. Cyrus Mendenhall Was for Many Years Chaplain at Reformatory.

Ionia friends received late this morning telling of the death of Cyrus Mendenhall in
Detroit this morning at 3 o’clock.  At the time of his death Rev. Mendenhall was 74
years of age.

There is hardly a person in Ionia county who has not met some time in their life
this man who everyone learned to love.  He served in the position as chaplain under
Exwarden Otis Fuller for a period of covering 27 years.  While in Ionia Rev.
Mendenhall was also a faithful worker at St. John’s Episcopal church.

The remains will arrive in Ionia late Monday afternoon and the funeral will be held
Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock with burial at Highland Park cemetery.

Friends Pay Last Tribute to Minister
Funeral Services of Rev. Cyrus Mendenhall Held Tuesday Morning.

St. John’s Episcopal church was filled almost to its capacity this morning at 10
o’clock with sorrowing friends and relatives who had gathered to pay their last
respects to the late Rev. Mendenhall, whose funeral was being held.

Bishop McCormick, of Grand Rapids, conducted the service and was assisted by the
Rev. Thomas _eroy arker?, rector of St. John’s church.  The music was furnished by
the church choir.

The bearers were Fred Cutler, Maurice Phelps, W.J. Walker, Howard Moulton, Dr. R.R.
Whitten, Otto? Ulrich.  Burial took place at Highland Park cemetery.

His two sons, Arthur Mendenhall of Detroit and Cyrus W. Mendenhall of Kansas City,
Mo., were here from away to attend the funeral.
