Ionia Daily Sentinel Standard, 30 Dec 1941

Mrs. E.A. Mercado of Ann Arbor died at St. Joseph hospital in Ann Arbor Tuesday
morning at 7 p.m. after several months of illness.  She had been suffering from
strep infection in the blood stream and had been in a coma for the past few days.

He mother, Mrs. Edwin A. Murphy, of Lyons, has been in Ann Arbor with her for the
past week and her father, Edwin Murphy, had been staying with another daughter, Mrs.
Lloyd Schilbe of Lansing.  Mr. Murphy is in rather poor health but was able to visit
his daughter in Ann Arbor on Christmas day.

Born in Ionia, Helen Murphy was graduated from the Ionia high school and later from
the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.  She taught school for several years at
Marlette.  She married E.A. Mercado and since that time has made her home in Ann
Arbor.  Mr. Mercado is a Spanish instructor at the University of Michigan.

Surviving are the husband; two sons, Philip and Jack, at home, the parents, Mr. and
Mrs. E.A. Murphy of Lyons, a sister, Mrs. Lloyd Schilbe of Lansing, and a brother,
Gilbert Murphy, of Detroit.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from the Muehlig funeral chapel in
Ann Arbor.  Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. at Highland Park cemetery in Ionia.
