She was born in Ithaca, Michigan, on Jan. 8, 1924, the daughter of Charles and Adelaide (Rolixman) Brown. Rosaline graduated from Alma High School and worked as secretary for the president of Leonard Refineries in Alma. She married Frank Mercado on May 6, 1950, and moved to Ionia, Michigan. She did daycare in her home while raising her own five children. Rosaline worked at Ionia County memorial Hospital for 15 years before spending the remainder of her working years at the family business, Hiler’s Clothing Store, until it closed in 1985. She was a member of Ionia First Presbyterian Church and involved in their Child Study Group. She served as a buyer for the gift shop at the hospital for many years. She loved traveling with her husband Frank and playing golf. She loved her home and was a carpenter, Crafter, seamstress and knitter. She was talented in so many ways. Rosaline has a loving family and many friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Surviving are her husband Frank; sons, Randy German, Chris Mercado, Matt (Betsy) Mercado; daughters, Marcia (Ernie) Ross and Madelyn Mercado; three sisters, Wanda Shifferd, Glennie (Max) Haase, Charlotte (Gerald) Jenkins; one brother, Jim Brown; grandchildren, Erin Hollon, Todd Hollon, MD, and Tyler Mercado; step granddaughter Melanie (William) Laffert; great grandchild Kimberlyn Hollon-Morseau; and step great grandchildren William and Ross Laffert. Preceding her in death were her parents, Charles and Adelaide Brown; brothers, Stuart Brown, Ralph Brown, William Brown, and Jerry Brown; and step granddaughter, Melissa Walker. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015, at Lehman Funeral Homes, 220 Rich St., Ionia, with Pastor Jon Van Dop presiding. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Ionia. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
