Mercer, one of the early pioneers, settling in Campbell township in 1847, and for many years a prominent resident and banker at Saranac, well known throughout the county, died suddenly of heart failure Sunday morning. He was about 80 years old, but had been in good health and active for his years. He leaves a widow and two sons: Charles E. of Grand Rapids, and Thad of Saranac. He had no partner in the bank, but a special administrator will be appointed at once, so that there may be no injurious interruption to the business. A.F. Noyes is the casher, and of course entirely familiar with the details and records.
