MERCEER EAST LANSING - Francis R. Mercer passed away October 29, 2017. Mr. Mercer was born in Lansing, Michigan on September 6, 1924 to John and Marie Mercer (deceased). He attended Lansing schools and was a 1942 graduate of Eastern High School. A veteran of WWII, Mr. Mercer served in the USNR for 3 years. In 1949 he graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Business Administration. During his 35 years in the Savings and Loan Business he became President and Chief Operating Officer of First State Savings Association of East Lansing in 1978. In 1982 First State Savings merged with Great Lakes Federal Savings of Ann Arbor. Besides being a member of the Board of Directors, Mr. Mercer was a Sr. Vice President and Lansing Regional Manager until his retirement in 1988. He was also a member of the East Lansing Kiwanis Club and a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Mr. Mercer is predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Mary Etta (Willems) and brothers, John (Lillian) and Ralph (Deloros) Mercer. He is survived by three sons, Fred (Sandy) Mercer of Sherman Oaks, CA, Brian (Katherine) Mercer of Zionsville, IN, Kevin (Karen) Mercer of Spring Lake, MI and one daughter, Sally (Dr. Mark) McMahan of Loudon, TN; six granddaughters, Rebecca (Jim) Less, Elizabeth Mercer, Michelle (Grant) Robinson, Leslie Mercer, Brooke McMahan and Kerri McMahan; and two grandsons, Daniel Mercer and Erick Mercer; great-granddaughter, Grace Lesh and many nieces and nephews. Mass of the Christian Burial has been held. Interment was at Deepdale Memorial Gardens with Military honors.
