Portland Observer, 25 Feb 1879

Mrs. Maggie Merchant, wife of Mr. Watson Merchant Esq., of Sebewa, died quite 
suddenly from inflammation of the lungs on Sunday morning last aged thirty-five 
years.  The sickness which caused her death was of but three or four days 
duration.  She leaves two children, one a babe but four weeks old.  The 
deceased was highly esteemed by a large circle of acquaintancies, and her 
bereaved husband has the sympathy of all.  Her funeral services take place at 
the M. E. church at 2 o’clock this afternoon.
