Marjorie L. Merchant, 88, formerly of Allen, passed away Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, at
Heartland Health Care Center in Ionia Michigan.  She was born March 19, 1927, in
Cleveland, Ohio, to Willard and Esther (Abe) Schmitt.  Marjorie attended Hillsdale
College and will be remembered as a talented pianist, gardener, and lover of
flowers.  On May 15, 1948, she married Benjamin F. Merchant II and he preceded her
in death on Jan. 8. 1991.

Survivors include her daughter, Catherine Merchant of Ionia; three sons, Benjamin F.
(Karen) Merchant III of Ionia; Willard Allan (Faith) Merchant of Somerset; Paul
Merchant; one sister, Carol (Richard) Petersen of Avon OH; two sisters-in-law, Toni
Caldwell and Carol (Tom) Kent; three grandchildren, Jennifer Harbaugh; Elisa
(George) Grace; Derek Merchant; three step-grandchildren, Mike (Monica) Alkema;
Rosie (Mike) Trindle; Kristin Van Vliet; 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces
and nephews.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, 11:30 a.m., at Sunset View Cemetery,
Jonesville, with Reverend Julie Yoder Elmore officiating.  Visitation was Tuesday
from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel, Litchfield. 
Memorials are suggested to Hillsdale College.
