Father and Mother Hasten, But Death Reaches Him First. Upon learning of the illness of their son Verne, Mr. and Mrs. Jay Morrell started for York, Pa., where the young people have been living for more than a year. But influenza exceeds trains in speed and the son was dead when his parents arrived. Mr. and Mrs. Verne Morrell lived for awhile in Lake Odessa, Mrs. Merrell being a member of the M.E. church here and a member of the choir, thereby making many friends. Later they moved into Sebewa where they also made many friends. About a year ago they moved to York, Pa., Mrs. Merrell’s former home. Mr. and Mrs. Jay Merrell, the father and mother live north of town, and they, with their other children the wife and three small children have the sympathy of a large circle of friends. Obituary. Verne J. Merrell, of York, Pa., was born in Ionia City, Ionia Co., Michigan in the year of 1887. Departed this life October 9, 1918 at the age of 31 years, 7 months and 15 days. He leaves to mourn their loss a wife, three small children, a father, mother one brother and two sisters and a host of other friends. The funeral was held at his home 778 W. Philadelphia St., York, Pa., Friday morning, conducted by Rev. Clarence E. Arnold, pastor of Trinity Lutheran church. The pallbearers were John, Jesse and Calvin Senft and Wm. Jones. Interment was at Greenmount cemetery.
