Merriam, a resident of Ionia for 29 years, died at 1:30 Saturday morning in St. Mary's hospital, Grand Rapids where she had undergone an operation April 8. She was the widow of the late A. W. (Don) Merriam, who died May 18, 1943. Christian Science services will be conducted at the Boynton funeral home Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock with burial in Easton cemetery beside her husband. Mrs. Merriam was born in New York state, April 6, 1872 a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James B. Drake who moved to Ionia county when she was two years of age and settled on a farm in Otisco township Upon reaching maturity she taught school for several years in various parts of the state as well as being employed by the J. L. Hudson Co. at Detroit for some time prior to her marriage in 1908 to Mr. Merriam, a railway conductor. Except for seven years spent in Detroit they spent the intervening years in Ionia. Surviving are a foster son, Don Merriam, Jr. attached to U. S. armed forces at Daniel Field, August, Ga., a granddaughter Nancy and a sister Mrs.. Gertrude Morrison, Grand Rapids.
