Ionia Sentinel, 10 May 1883

Lauren Merriam, for several years a prominent business man of this city, died
last week at Warner, Brown county, Dakota, where he went early this spring.  Mr.
Merriam was the business associate of C.A. Preston for eleven years, in the dry
goods trade in Ionia, and afterwards in lumbering at Edmore.  He was postmaster
of the last named town for one term, and was highly esteemed by all with whom he
was acquainted.  He had been sick for several days with lung fever, of which he
died.  The remains will be brought to Ionia for burial.

B.F. Flint arrived on Saturday from Dakota with the remains of Lauren Merriam. 
The funeral was held in the afternoon from the Disciples church.
