Ionia Daily Standard, 15 Jan 1898

Mrs. Curtiss Merrifield, a resident of Easton for over half a century, died at 
her home one and a half miles northwest of city, at 1:30 this morning.  
Funeral, Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock; meet at house at 10.  Interment, 
Highland Park.

The pioneers are passing rapidly, Only four days after the death of his wife, 
Curtis Merrifield followed, passing away last evening, at the age of 86.

A Rousing Meeting of the Old Settlers.

I now give to you two who, though their names were not on the record, yet were 
always present at our gathering.  More than sixty years ago Mr. and Mrs. Curtis 
Merrifield came from New England and made their home in the township of 
Easton.  They passed the silver anniversary, the golden one, and walking on 
hand in hand towards the diamond, they were called to enter the valley of the 
shadow of death almost together.  Mrs. Merrifield dying January 15, 1898; Mr. 
Merrifield, January 19, 1989.  I have no data in relation to them.
