Allegan News (Pg. 3) - Friday, Oct. 7, 1949

Funeral services for Rev. Allen R. Merrill were held at the Hopkins 
Methodist church on Friday morning and in the Clarksville Methodist church 
in the afternoon with interment in Clarksville cemetery. Rev. Merrill, 83, 
had served approximately a dozen pastorates of the Methodist church since 
his ordination in 1891. He died Tuesday,September 27, in the Allegan Health 
Center. Following his retirement in 1937 he had frequently supplied for 
other ministers and taught Sunday school classes each week until his recent 
illness. Surviving are his wife, Zetta; five sons, Hardy of Louisville, Ky., 
Howard of South Bend, Ind., Paul of Seattle, Wash., and Floyd of Wayland; 
two daughters, Ruth and Evelyn, both of Battle Creek; two sisters, Mrs. J. 
V. Conklin of Miami, Fla., and Mrs. Simon Sliter of Kalamazoo, and 16 
grandchildren.
