Lyons Herald, 23 May 1901

Jesse Merrithew, who has been working for N.B. Hayes for the past two years and 
mention of whose sickness has been made in these columns, died at his home on 
Friday last after a lingering illness of two months with Typhoid pneumonia.  Jess 
was a North Plains boy, having been born and reared to manhood in the township 
and was well known.  He leaves to mourn his death a wife and two little children, 
also two brothers, Charles and Moses.  The funeral was under the auspices of the 
Woodmen Camp at Muir, of which deceased was a member, and held at the Union 
Church last Sunday at 2 o’clock, Rev. Wm. Exner preaching the sermon.
