Ionia Sentinel, page 1, 11 Jan 1878

Nellie Merritt, daughter of Mrs. Southwick Merritt, died on Friday evening of
last week, at the age of 17 years, after a lingering illness of about one year’s
duration.  Nellie was a bright, beautiful girl, of an amiable disposition, and
her loss is a cause of deep grief to many affectionate friends.  The funeral
services were held at the residence of C.W Stone, on Sunday afternoon, and were
conducted by Rev. E. Cooley, of the M.E. Church.

[Transcriber's Note:  There is a notation on the obituary card that she was
buried in Oak Hill Cemetery.]
