The Ionia Daily Sentinel, Monday, August 12, 1918

Theron Messer, aged about 14 years, while swimming with several of his 
companions Sunday afternoon was drowned in 12 feet of water at the mill race, 
near the river at Lyons.  His companions were unable to aid him and he went 
down and never came up.  The body was found and taken to the home of his 
parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Orphin Messer of Lyons.
