The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Thursday, August 25, 1966
Phlara Messer, 64, of Chippewa Lake, formerly of Lyons, died late Wednesday at 
Ionia County Memorial hospital after a lengthy illness.  He was born in Lyons, 
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lenow Messer and attended school in Lyons.  Mr. Messer 
was employed at Ionia State Hospital 34 years until retirement.  In 1955 he 
married Mary Archart of Lowell and they moved a few years ago to Chippewa 
Lake.  Surviving are his wife, Mary, and one sister, Mrs. Rilla Sprague of 
Lyons, several nieces and nephews.

Rosary will be recited Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Shaw-Rivett-Hull funeral home in 
Muir.  Mass will be said Saturday at 9 a.m. at SS Peter and Paul Catholic 
Church in Ionia.  Burial will be in Lyons cemetery. 

Subsequent Publication:   Monday, August 29, 1966

Funeral service for Phlara Messer were Friday morning at 9 a.m. at SS Peter 
and Paul church, Rev. Father Don Lomasiewicz of Ionia officiated, and burial 
was in Lyons cemetery.  Bearers were Lewie Van Sickle, Lloyd Hogan, Norris 
Throop, William Crowley, Marvin Lawless and James Scheid.
