Messer, 93, of Clarksville, died Friday at Pennock Hospital in Hastings. He was born July 26, 1890, the son of Edward and Margaret Burwell Messer. He attended school in Bear Lake. He married Elsie Kagey on June 25, 1918. He was employed by Pontiac Motor Division for 28 ½? years, retiring in 1957. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Hastings. Surviving are his wife, two sons Charles F. of Clarksville and Bernard H. of Pontiac, three daughters, Elsie May Venema of Clarksville, Leona Kline of Clarksville and Mary Alice Lester of Jenison, three sisters, Leora Gervin of Manistee, Mary Churchill of Westland and Margarite Pelto of Bear Lake, one brother, George, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Pickens Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa with Pastor Paul Howell officiating. Burial will be in Drayton Plains Cemetery. Friends and relatives may meet the family on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the chapel in Lake Odessa.
