Bill was born in Lyons on Nov. 12, 1919, the son of Henry and Margaret Mestemaker. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor in The Battle of The Bulge. Bill was also a long-time employee of the Michigan Reformatory in Ionia, Chrysler Corporation in Lyons, a jeweler and a farmer. Bill and Margarete retired to Ocala, Fla., in the 1980’s. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, David Mestemaker and Robert Mestemaker; sister, Ruth Hopkins; son, William Mestemaker and grandson, Gary Mestemaker. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margarete of Ocala, Fla.; daughter, Katherine Gilberg of Ionia; brother Donald (Barb) Mestemaker of Eagle; grandchildren, Marcie (John) Vargas, Joe (Alaina) Gilberg of Austin, Texas, Carol Mestemaker, Shannon Mestemaker and Matthew Mestemaker; great - grandchildren, Donald (Stacie) Gilberg of Ionia and James Wiles of Ann Arbor; great-great grandson, Landon Gilberg; and many nephews, nieces,, and great- nephews and nieces. A military burial will be in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla., at a later date. Condolences to the family may be sent in care of Katherine Gilberg, 1033 Dildine Road, Ionia, MI 48846.
