Suddenly Stricken Soon After She Retired, Thursday Evening. Mrs. Herman Meyers, daughter of Clark Budd, died suddenly at the home on Bridge street Thursday night. She had been ill with influenza, but had recovered to such an extent that the doctor was to have ceased his visits that day. Mr. and Mrs. Meyers had retired, and when the wife complained of a choking sensation efforts were made to get a physician. While Mr. Budd was at the home of a neighbor to telephone death came. Mrs. Meyers’ mother died when she was but two years old and for the last eight years she has looked after the household affairs as faithfully and as well as an older woman could have done. Her maiden name was Dana Budd and she was born in Portland 20 years ago last April. She married Herman Meyers in May 1916 and the couple have an infant son. Harry Budd, of Camp Custer, and Mrs. Dell Reed, of Portland, are brother and sister of deceased. Funeral services were held at the house Sunday, and were private. ------ One of the most lamentable of all the fatalities resulting from the present influenza epidemic in Portland was the death of Mrs. Herman Meyers (nee Miss Dana Budd), who expired very suddenly and unexpectedly, Thursday evening, at the home of her father, Clark Budd, on Bridge street. Mrs. Meyers was taken sick a couple of weeks ago, but until the day of her death she had recovered to such an extent that she was considered completely out of danger, and her untimely passing was a terrific blow to immediate family and friends. She was taken worse early Thursday evening, after retiring for the night, and while members of the family were attempting to summon a physician, death came. Mrs. Meyers was a young woman of jovial spirits and kind disposition and her death is deeply mourned by many acquaintances. She was left motherless at the age of two years and upon growing to womanhood kept the household for the father. She was married to Herman Meyers, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Mathias Meyers, in May, 1916, and had she lived until next April she would have been 20 years of age. She is survived by the father, Clark Budd, the husband, one brother, Harry Budd, of Camp Custer, a sister, Mrs. Dell Reed, of Portland, and an infant son. Funeral services were held at the late residence Sunday afternoon, and on account of the prevailing influenza epidemic, were private. Burial was made in the Portland cemetery.
