Bernard O. Meyers, 78, of Portland, passed away on Monday, May 29, 2000.  He 
was born June 17, 1921 in Westphalia, the son of Bernard and Olivia (Fox) 
Meyers.

Mr. Meyers was a member of St. Patrick’s Church, The Dad’s Club at the V.F.W. 
Post #4090 and the U.A.W. Local #652.  He worked at Oldsmobile for 25 years, 
retiring in skilled trades in 1974.  He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed 
traveling, playing cards and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Mrs. Meyers was preceded in death by a son, Robert; three brothers, Steven, 
John and Richard; and two sisters, Sr. Mary Meyers and Jeanette Winters.

Surviving are his wife Virginia of 54 years; children Ron (Linda) Meyers of 
Lyons, Maureen Meyers of Burlington, N.C., Mike (Linda) Meyers of Portland, 
Susan (George) Scarbrough of Reed City, Gary Meyers of Portland, Dave Meyers 
of Aurora, Colo., Diane (Gordy) Fawley of Ponderay, Idaho, Kevin (Teresa) 
Meyers of Grand Rapids and Dennis Meyers of St. Claire Shores; 17 
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Stella Cusack, 
Rosalyn Bozung and Germaine (Bill) Shattuck.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today, at St. 
Patrick’s Church by the Rev. Peter Vu, Associate Pastor, with Rite of 
Committal following at Portland Cemetery.  The family received friends from 2 
p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral 
Home, 1301 E. Grand River, Portland.  The Rosaries were prayed at 3 p.m. ad 8 
p.m.  For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of 
one’s choice, in memory of Bernard O. Meyers.
