July 7, 2012 Lewis Edwin Meyers, 90, of Ionia, formerly of Lyons, passed away at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing on July 3, 2012. He was born on Dec. 12, 1921 in Sheridan the son of Edwin Clark and Lillian Mae (Yeomans) Meyers. He was educated in Lyons area rural schools and then entered the Navy serving his country with pride during World War II. While home on leave he married his first wife, Edna Priest on May 24, 1945, who preceded him in death on Feb. 5, 1964. He married Wanda May Pearl on Feb. 6, 1965 and the couple enjoyed 47 years of marriage. Lewis was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and loved to fish. He enjoyed the great outdoors and building things with his hands. He was a great cook, took great care of Wanda and attended Shiloh Community Church. In addition to his dear wife, Wanda, he is survived by his children, Shirley (James) Lytle of Lyons, Lillian (Tom) Tefft of Ionia, Sally Lauer of Sheridan, Laura (Al) Martin of Lyons and Randy Meyers of Lowell: step-children Carolyn (Tom) Kerr of Sheridan and Sandra Smalley of Ionia; 27 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; 31 great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and friends. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Myrtle, Gladys and Madelyn; brothers, James and Fred; and a great grandson, Casey Hanline. A Graveside Service will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 13, at Oakwood Cemetery in Muir. Pastor Ken Harger will officiate and Military Honors will also take place.
