Lake O Wave - Friday, Oct. 19, 1906

Uncle Chas. Meyers, so well and favorably known here, and who had been in 
poor health for some time back from liver complaint, passed to his heavenly 
rest last week Monday night, a mention of which was inadvertently omitted 
from last weeks Wave. 

Mr. Meyers was born in Germany in 1832, he was married to Miss Mary Lute in 
1856: they came to America in 1874. To them were born fourteen children, all 
of whom have long since passed away. William, the first born being the last 
one to die, his death occurring about about fifteen years ago on the day set 
for his wedding.

On coming to this country they first lived in Wayne county five years, then 
Oakland for two years and then moved here to Odessa settling on the farm 
north of town, now owned by Harley Hansbarger. There they lived until 
thirteen years ago when Mr. Meyers met with the loss of his arm in a mowing 
machine, thus being unable longer to carry on farm work. He then moved here 
to town where he has since lived.

Mr. Meyers was a faithful member of the Cong'l church, always being on hand 
for every service no matter what the weather might be and when once 
compelled to remain at home was quickly missed by all.

On Thursday before his death he and his loving companion in company with 
Rev. and Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Healy took communion together at their little 
home, an occasion which seemed to sweeten the cup the two were about to be 
called upon to drink.

The funeral was held Thursday at the Cong'l church conducted by Rev. Jones 
and the remains laid at rest in Lakeside cemetery by the side of his father 
and his cousin.
