Wes was born March 3, 1921 in Sunfield, the son of Harold A.and Mattie M. (Bailiff) Meyers.He attended Sebewa Center Rural School and Lake Odessa High School. He was a World War II Veteran, serving in the Navy's 5th Amphibious Forces, 7th Fleet, and was stationed on the island of Guam, Saipan and Hawaii. Upon discharge, he married hie long time sweetheart, Lucille M. Heintzelman, on June 7, 1946. Wes was a life-long resident of Sunfield where he farmed and was employed by Mapes Furniture Company for more than 25 years as a floor covering installer.He was a member of Sebewa Center United Methodist Church and the VFW Jackson- Mutschier Post 4461. Wes was a humble man with a kind and loving spirit.His greatest joy was to be at home with his wife and to spend time with his children and grandchildren. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed being in the woods or puttering in the yard and garden. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, along with their children,Linda (Phil) DeVries of Ludington, Duane (Buffy)Meyers of Sunfield, Debrah (Ed) Smith of Lake Odessa, Wesley Jr.(Connie) Meyers of Lake Odessa and Annette (Ron) Thompson of Indian River;15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great- great-grandchild.Also surviving are one brother, Harold Meyers of Charlotte and one sister, Ardell (Richard) Ward of Lake City. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Darrell E.Meyers; and siblings, Howard (Leona) Meyers and Eleanor (Al) Allen; and sister-in-law Maxine Meyers. The funeral service will be held at Rosier Funeral Home in Sunfield at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec.28, 2010. The family will receive visitors immediately before the service, between noon and 1 p.m. Interment will take place at the East Sebewa Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Sebewa Center United Methodist Church or the VFW post in lake Odessa, sent c/o RFH,P.O. Box 36, Sunfield, MI 48890.
