July 16,1932 WELL-KNOWN IONIA MAN A GAS VICTIM Body of W. Carl Meyersahm Auto Salesman, Found asphyxiated in Bathroom at High Street Home Asphyxiated by fumes of escaping from an open jet of a water heater, the body of W. Carl Meyersahm, 45, well-known automobile salesman, and a World War veteran, was found in the bathroom of his home on High street Friday afternoon. He had been dead two hours. Discovery was made by his wife, Elsie, when she returned from attending a club meeting. Mr. Meyersahm previous to coming here 17 years ago, sailed the Great Lakes under the commission of Caption. Mr. Meyersahm was born in St. Joseph, but grew to manhood in Grand Rapids, and had lived since his marriage 17 years ago in Ionia. For six years he had been a salesman for the Ogilvie Auto company. He served one year as Senior Lieutenant with the Merchant Marines during the world war, and also spent some time in training at Camp Custer, having been transferred later to the school of technology in Massachusetts. Besides sailing on the Great Lakes he understood the deepwater navigation and had been on both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. The Baptist denomination was his chosen faith. He was a member of the Masonic blue lodge and the R. & S.M. council, and had received the thirty-second degree in Masonry. Besides his widow, he leaves two brother, Irving, of Yonkers, N.Y., a sister, Mrs. Jay E. Wellman, of Edenburgh, Ind. Funeral service will be in charge of Rev. R. E. Karban. They will be held Monday at 1:30 o'clock at the home, 530 High street, and at the Presbyterian church at 2:30. Ionia Sentinel Standard-Tues. July 19, 1932 Carl Meyersahm Funeral services for Carl Meyersahm, who died Friday afternoon, were conducted by Rev. R. E. Karban, Monday afternoon, 1:30 at the home on High street and at 2:30 at the Presbyterian church. Mr. Meyersahm served in the World War and members of the John F.Girard post, American Legion, and members of the B.P.O.E., with which he was offiliated, served as honorary escort. Burial took place in Greenwood cemetery, Grand Rapids, where a firing squad from the American Legion of Grand Rapids, gave the full military burial rites.. Mrs. C.J. VanReenen presided at the organ during the services at the church. Mrs. R. E. Colwell and Mrs.Thane Benedict providing the vocal selections. Mrs. Merrill Jennings and Mrs. Jason Bricker had charge of the flowers. Bearers were E. W. Krainbring, Merill Jennings, Alva Hill, W. Y. Templeton, Lee Yates, and Charles Groms. Those from out of town to attend the services were Mr and Mrs Hiram Berndt, of Wyman; Mr and Mrs Albert Berndt, Greenville; Mr and Mrs Peter Honn, Grand Rapids, Mr and Mrs Edward Peacock, Grand Rapids.
