J. Mickel Funeral Saturday at Grand Rapids The funeral services for William J. Mickel, of Grand Rapids, will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Kilstrom funeral parlors at Grand Rapids. Mr. Mickel was born in Ionia and was reared on a farm on the Steele road which was then owned by his father, now the property of Dan McQuaid, and received his early education in the Ionia schools, graduating with the class of 1889. He early identified himself with military circles, and was a member of the old Ionia lightguards. He became a soldier in the Spanish-American war, and served with Company F., Thirty-second Michigan Volunteer infantry. He was a past inspector-general of the United States War Veterans, and had served as a deputy food inspector, and the last six years he had been employed in the internal revenue department. His illness had lasted over a period of six years. He is a cousin of Perry Mickel, of Ionia. His family of a widow, two daughters, Wilma Ann and Dorothy Louise and one son Blair, survive him. A sister, Mrs. J.J. Kollen, and a brother Charles, of Grand Rapids, are also left.
