Mikek, 83, of Belding, passed away Friday, July 22, 2005, in Belding. She was born on Aug. 26, 1921, in Ontario, Canada, the daughter of William and Mary Avery Shrumm. Doris came to the United States as a young child. She served in the Unites States Coast Guard for a short period-during World War II. On Nov. 20, 1948, she married Frank E. Mikek in Merrill. Doris and Frank moved to Bel Oak in 1956 and became the owner and operator's of Mikek's Grocery and Gas Station. They enjoyed many great years together in this area where they raised two sons and a daughter. Doris was a tireless member of St. Mary Church in Williamston where she still enjoyed visits to see old friends. Later Doris worked as a housing clerk at Michigan State University. Upon retirement, she and Frank moved to Florida where they made many new friends and took great pleasure in having her children and grandchildren come down to Florida for visits. In recent years she moved to Belding to be closer to family. There, Doris was an active member of St. Joseph Parish. She was loved by all who knew her and will be remembered as an energetic, giving person who truly cared about everyone she met. Doris enjoyed swimming, reading, sewing, baking and spending time with her family. Doris was preceded from this world by her husband, Frank, and grandson, Eddie Mikek. She will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by those she left behind: two sons, Ed and Jan Mikek of Belding, Andy and Sarah Mikek of Midvale, Idaho; daughter, Cathy and Jerry Fields of Lansing; grandchildren; Scott, Tiffany and Dan Mikek, Jennifer and David Foreman, Chuck and Anna Fields, Jake and Savannah Mikek; and great-grandchildren, Hannah. Elizabeth and Sydney Mikek, Isabel Fields. Mass of Christian burial will be offered 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Belding, with Father CK as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation is today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with a rosary prayed at 8 p.m. at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice or St. Joseph Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and at church.
