July 28, 1911 Mrs. Lester A. Millard, whose maiden name was Christie A. McLean, was born of sturdy Scotch parents at Thurso, Canada, November 1, 1843 and died July 28, 1911, aged 67 years, 8 months and 27 days. Her girlhood was spent with the family of her uncle, Rev. Allen McLean who was pastor of the Pewamo Baptist church at the time the present edifice was built. When but eleven years of age she united with the Baptist church and was an earnest worker in its ranks the whole of her useful life. On January 5th 1867 she became the bride of Lester A. Millard, the ceremony being performed at Grand Rapids. The young couple came to Pewamo and for twenty-five years were identified with the business and social life of the village. They moved from here to Ionia and have since made that city their home. Two children were born to this union, Myrtle and Ruby, both of whom have already preceded their mother to the golden shore of another realm. The deceased leaves to mourn her demise, a husband, four grandchildren, one son-in- law, many more distant relatives as well as a host of loving friends. The funeral services were held from her late home in the city of Ionia on Monday, July 31st, being conducted by Rev. D. B. Davidson, of Alpena, who was once her pastor at Pewamo.
