Millard, 95, a resident of Ionia township and one of Ionia county’s oldest residents, died Monday evening at 11 o’clock. He was born in Clinton county March 10, 1842, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Millard of Pewamo, his boyhood days being spent in that county. He was married to Christie McLane of Pewamo, who died July 28, 1911. After his marriage, he moved to Pewamo where he lived for many years. In 1890 he moved to Ionia and for five years he and his wife lived on Washington street where the Will Schlernitzauer home is now located. They then moved to Wall street and for a number of years he was employed as a guard at the Michigan reformatory. Until recently he made his home with his granddaughter, Mrs. Gerald Robinson in Ionia township. Mr. Millard is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Alvina Finn of Hubbardston, and Mrs. Lavina Wymans of Perrington, both of whom are in their late eighties; three grand-daughters, Mrs. Gerald Robinson of Ionia, Mrs. James Sproat of Detroit, and Mrs. Esther McKendry of Ionia; one grandson, Millard J. Cook of Washington, D. C., a son-in-law, Henry J. Cook of Ionia, and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Stone funeral home Wednesday afternoon, September 22, at 2:30 o’clock. Interment will be at Highland Park cemetery.
