Miller, whose death occurred at Blodgett Memorial Hospital at Grand Rapids, on Thursday evening, June 4, was a great shock to her many friends and, while it was known she was very ill, still hopes were held out that she might ultimately recover. However, it was not to be and she passed quietly and peacefully away at7:55 pm in the presence of her devoted husband, who has been constantly at her bedside. Mrs. Miller had been ill and confined to her bed about three weeks, suffering from abscesses in her neck, but no great alarm was felt until about May 10th, when it was decided to call in consultation the eminent surgeon, Dr. Richard Smith of Grand Rapids, who at once pronounced her condition most serious and it was decided that her only chance of recovery was by an operation for the removal of the glands of her neck in hopes to stay the progress of the disease; but such a foothold had been obtained that it was of no avail. Mrs. Miller was a great but patient sufferer, being delirious during the entire time after her operation until her death. Mrs. Miller was the daughter of John and Deborah Reid, born in the township of Keene, June 25, 1857, and had she lived a few days longer would have been 68 years of age. She was married to Frank C. Miller, a young attorney of Ionia, on February 23, 1887, at her home at Potters Corners, in Keene, where she had lived all her previous life. They immediately came to Ionia city, locating on West Main Street, where they resided for thirty-four years, removing to their present beautiful home on 233 East Main Street about four years ago. Few people living in Ionia were better or more favorably known that Mr. and Mrs. Miller. They enjoyed a very wide acquaintance not only throughout the entire county, but the entire state, and from nearly every county in the state have come messages of condolence and sympathy to the bereaved family. Mrs. Miller was possessed of a beautiful personality and a sincere Christian character, devoted to her husband and her home. No children blessed them, but some years ago they took into the home a niece of Mr. Miller, Miss Josephine Mazie Miller, and she and Mrs. Miller were inseparable companions, being constantly in each other’s company. The husband and Mazie, now Mrs. Harry C. Derr, alone as the immediate relatives, are left to mourn her passing. She leaves a large number of cousins and other distant relatives. A noble life has been removed but the community is better because she lived and her memory will ever be kept green because of her noble life and character. She was a past worthy matron of the O. E. S. The funeral was held last Sunday afternoon from the late residence, 233 East Main Street. The service was in charge of Rev. M. S. Decker, pastor of the Church of Christ, assisted by Rev. W. K. Spencer, a neighbor, and Rev. C. J. Kruse, pastor of the Methodist church, members of the Queen Esther chapter of O.E.S. attended in a body. The music was furnished by Mrs. Pearl Phelps and Chandler Haight. The flowers were in charge of Mrs. G. F. Brown, Mrs. Cora Perham, Mrs. Fred Howard and Mrs. Frank Bradford. The bearers were: Ed Rathbun, Leon Rathbun, J. R. Prout, Harry Derr, Dell Lee and Romer Walters. Interment was made at Saranac cemetery.
